Alexander Dawson Opens Postseason / Conference Tournament on Home Court

February 23, 2008

Mustangs host either Gilpin Co. or Front Range Christian Tuesday Night @ 7pm.

Following the last regular season contest, the team got some well needed rest over the weekend. Coach Sorensen had the team hit the court with a solid week of practice and a scrimmage with a local 3A team Friday to prepare for next Tuesday’s CHSAA 2A postseason opener in the Conference Tournament on their home court. The Mustang’s earned a 2nd seed on the strength of their 7-2 conference record, and need two wins to get to the Conference Championship game. Both teams in the Conference Championship game advance to Regionals.

For those of you wondering, if the team does get to Regionals, a win at Regionals will send the Mustangs to the State Tournament in Pueblo as one of 8 teams competing for the CHSAA 2A State Championship.

So it is now a 7 game postseason for the Championship. One game at a time. A loss in any game except the Conference Championship and this great season will be concluded. Defense wins championships and this team has shown throughout the season, with few exceptions, that it has the tenacity to play winning defense. Offensive balance has been emerging as the season has progressed, and to go deep, the Mustangs are going to need balance and consistency from the starters, and a spark from players 6-10, on both ends of the court. Coaching has brought along this young team to a point where they expect to win. While the Mustangs are not the favorites, they do have confidence and the game with some good luck on any given night to keep winning.

You can bet the Coaches have the team looking squarely at Tuesday night to get the postseason ball rolling and keep the season alive.

Chalk up another win

February 4, 2008

Maranatha is a team that is always hard to figure out.  They play hard as a team, and in previous years they have been very tough.  This year Dawson prevailed 55-33.

After the first quarter we learned how to play that shut-down defense again.   The Dawson D held the opponents to 21 points total in quarters 2, 3, and 4. We had 24 field goals (all 2’s) to their 12 (9 2’s and 3 3’s).

Good home game coming up on Tuesday.  Daypring Christian is one of the teams we are tied for 2nd with, so it will be important to continue our strong play.  Come support the ‘Stang hoopsters.
